Aquaculture InnovationCase study 1: Aquaculture Centre of Excellence (ACE, Eco-Ark®)

Sep 14 2022

3:00 PM - 3:40 PM EDT

Established in 2017, ACE aims to revolutionize fish farming. The Eco-Ark® is a game-changing farming solution to address challenges faced by the conventional open net cage farming systems. It is climate resilient and overcomes external calamities. In Eco-Ark® closed-containment system the tanks can be of varying depth depending on locations of the Eco-Ark. As the farming extends vertically downwards without going against gravity there is necessity to expense energy to pump seawater upwards.

Eco-Ark® combines Offshore & Marine Technology with a closed containment system, using the water treatment technology of drum filters and ozonation to sterilize the seawater and to reduce harmful pollutants in order to provide good quality seawater to culture the fish. Before discharging water back into the sea, solid waste is first removed and degassed, thus helping to mitigate the impact of polluting the environment. In fact, the discharged seawater from the Eco-Ark is cleaner than its intake seawater. In a situation where there is adverse water condition, the Eco-Ark can switch from flow-through system into a recirculating system. It is engineered with sustainable renewable green energy and environmentally friendly design. It taps on solar energy by creatively integrating the BiPV solar panels as the roof structure.  Eco-Ark® combines aquaculture husbandry practices with advanced aquaculture technologies, automation and Internet of Things (IoT) to enable intensive fish farming in a sustainable way. This ingenious closed-containment fish farm technology can also be exported to other parts of the world as the unparallelly sustainable solution of the future.

ACE has attained SFA’s Good Aquaculture Practices for Fish Farming (GAF- FF) since May 2022
