Boston, USA (May 12, 2017) – Diversified Communications, producer of Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America, announced that this year’s exposition set both attendance and exhibiting company records, making it the largest ever in the event’s thirty-seven year existence.
Taking place March 19-21 in Boston, MA, the exposition covered 253,560 net square feet at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, breaking last year’s exhibit space record of 230,030 net square feet. 1,342 exhibiting companies from 53 countries, representing a nine percent participation increase over last year, displayed their seafood products, services and equipment to more than 22,660 attending seafood professionals from over 120 countries.
“The success of this year’s event is attributed to the growth of international and domestic participation from seafood, equipment and service exhibitors,” said Wynter Courmont, Event Director at Diversified Communications. “The exposition has expanded so much since its inception and the interest in participating continues to grow each year,” added Courmont. “This is a testament of the importance of the event for the seafood industry – providing the invaluable opportunity for buyers and suppliers to connect and conduct business all in one place.”
“This is our first year exhibiting at the event,” said Yvonne Adam from Young’s Seafood Ltd. “We met with many buyers about our products and brand in Boston. We’re happy with our experience and are planning on participating again next year,” she said.
A series of events, including the 11th annual Oyster Shucking Competition and five master classes and culinary demonstrations, designed to enhance attendees’ experience, took place during the three-day expo.
Eamon Clark was named the “fastest shucker in the East” after beating 14 competitors in the Oyster Shucking Competition. Two master classes on sea urchin and oysters gave attendees a deeper understanding on how to source, select, handle and prepare these species, while three culinary demonstrations were given by presenting chefs on dishes including Tilapia from China, Cioppino Fra Diavolo and Crab & Lime Cannelloni & Pan Roasted King Scallops.
In addition to the special events, the exposition offered a packed educational conference program featuring 30 sessions by industry leaders on the most important and timely issues relevant to today’s seafood business environment, including a keynote panel with five chefs discussing the business of seafood.
Stand-out new products were recognized as part of the annual Seafood Excellence Awards. Fishpeople Seafood won the “Best New Retail Product” for their Meyer Lemon & Herb Panko Wild Alaska Salmon Kit and Open Blue won the “Best New Foodservice Product” for their Frozen Open Blue Cobia Fillet.
